Nothing I Wouldn't Do For You

[Samantha James]

Sammy stood by the walk in closet as she finish buttoning her smock top. She was supposed to work the morning shift in the Emergency Department of Mercy General Hospital that morning. She walked down the hallway to her younger brother's room and her brow furrowed in worry when she saw he was still asleep. He was never like this. He never slept this late and he was normally already bouncing off the walls at this point in the morning. Sammy walked over and sat on the edge of the bed beside her brother, and gently shook his shoulder.

“Corey?” Sammy said softly. “Corey wake up.”

Feeling someone touch him, Corey jumped slightly as he woke up. He'd never liked it when people he wasn't close to touched him, especially not when he was sleeping; relaxing when he realised it was only his sister. Now that he was awake, Corey realised he felt terrible and groaned as he slowly rolled over onto his back to look up at his sister.

"What is it?" Corey asked as he yawned, still half asleep.

[Samantha James]

"You okay?" Sammy asked gently, shaking her head mentally when she saw how drained of color Corey was. "It's not like you to sleep this long."

[Corey James]

"Oh, what time is it?" Corey asked, purposely not answering his sister's first question. Seeing Sammy dressed for work, he didn't want to worry her.

[Samantha James]

"It's 8:30," said Sammy. "and you're avoiding the question...."

[Corey James]

"Really? Wow...That's late for me." Corey said, yawning again. "Fine, I don't feel so good." He admitted after a pause.

[Samantha James]

Sammy placed a gentle hand on Corey's forehead. "You're pretty warm," she said after a moment. "I'll go call and ask Claire to cover my shift 'til I get you better."

[Corey James]

"No Sammy, you don't have to," Corey said, frowning. "It's not that bad..." He sat up, trying not to pull a face as his head started spinning and put a hand to his head. Corey tried to make it look like he was just brushing his hand through his hair.

[Samantha James]

Sammy shook her head, gentle pushing Corey back down. She'd seen a routine like his too many times in the ER. "You're family, I'm gonna take care of you."

[Corey James]

Corey frowned and shook his head. "I-I'm fine, you don't need to..." He said, though he knew it wouldn't change her mind.

[Samantha James]

"Look, you have two choices," said Sammy. "Either I stay home and take care of you here, or you come down to Mercy General with me."

[Corey James]

"Fine, stay then," Corey said, pouting as he folded his arms. "I don't wanna go there. Too many people."

[Samantha James]

Sammy gave Corey a gentle smile. "C'mon now, no pouting, it's too damn adorable," she said. "That's why I wanted to stay home in the first place, I know you hate crowds like that."

[Corey James]

Corey stopped pouting, but kept his arms folded and stuck his tongue out instead. "Well I get nervous around so many people I don't know...then they look at me funny."

[Samantha James]

"I know hun, I know," said Sammy. "People can be jerks sometimes."

[Corey James]

Corey nodded, frowning. "They're mean. Well...most people I've seen anyway..."

[Samantha James]

"Roger's not," Sammy mumbled, not even realizing she'd said it until the words left her mouth. Her mind drifted back to seeing him in the ER the day before, and going to dinner that night.

[Corey James]

"Roger? What?" Corey asked, not having been paying much attention to what she'd said.

[Samantha James]

"He's back Corey," Said Sammy, the shock still clear in her voice.

[Corey James]

"What?" Corey said, pulling a face after sitting up suddenly again. "H-he is? Since when?" He asked.

[Samantha James]

"Yesterday," said Sammy. "He's the one I went to dinner with."

[Corey James]

"Oh..." Corey said slowly, frowning when his head didn't stop spinning.

[Samantha James]

"Lay back down Cor," said Sammy. "You need to rest."

[Corey James]

Corey nodded slowly and did as he was told. "...did you enjoy your dinner last night?" He asked.

[Samantha James]

Sammy nodded. "Yeah, I did, I'm still really confused though," she said. "I'll be back, I'm gonna go get my house call bag."
